either that or custom create your own classes for your players. You don't "need" the DMG/PHB/MM to play through N1. Get the monthly license and purchase just N1.
There will be other smaller adventures like N1 as well as the larger T1-4 tho that will be more than N1.Īll that said if you want to try the least expensive route and see if you like it. If you outright purchase it you don't have to pay anymore for the license.Īt that point you can make your own adventures if you've a mind tho you'll need sometime to get familiar with FG. You can outright purchase ultimate (if you plan to play more than a year it's worth it) you can do so for around $140. If you go with ultimate it's $10 a month. The license for FG (standard) is $4 a month.

I would recommend a standard or ultimate license (ultimate probably since it means your players connect with the free demo) and at the least get the PHB, DMG and MM. You can read the inital post on the FantasyGrounds forums I made here with links to other related topics. I just hope those of you that use VTTs and are wanting to have content there for use will find this useful. I am glad that my stubbornness has paid off and WoTC let the AD&D 2E system be used. This project was a labor of love for the game. Also coming are some of the 1E adventures such as Temple of Elemental Evil (using npc stat blocks from the adventure so 1e dragons/demons/etc). There are several settings that are going to be included in the product line, one of which is Greyhawk. DMs can also make use of the tables to easily generate items, loot tables and the like. It really does make playing the game easier for players that might not be as experienced with the system. The fighter, thief, priest, wizard, ranger, druid and paladin handbooks will be coming out over the next several months as well.Īll of this content uses the features of FantasyGrounds allowing you to drag/drop a class, race, kit, item and spell. If you want content you can purchase a license of FG and then purchase the PHB, DMG, MM and adventures (the first one is N1)

What does that mean? You can get the ruleset for free (demo or licensed version of the client). Smiteworks has licensed AD&D 2E for use in FantasyGrounds. While it might not mean that to everyone I think this is a great step forward in supporting the older versions of our hobby in the modern world. So, remember when I said there was something coming that showed WoTC hadn't given up on AD&D? This is what I meant.
